Abstract

Global citizenship education (GCED) is pivotal in igniting dialogue and motivating action toward civic peace and social justice solutions. The research utilized qualitative and quantitative methods and investigated global citizenship education integration across Caribbean Small Island States. Curriculum document analysis was used to evaluate standardized units and lesson plans. An online survey was also used to gather primary data from fifty-five in-service educators. There was low awareness of GCED but moderate level of integration among the Inservice teachers. Themes related to indigenous rights, democracy, civic pride, cultural appreciation, and communication skills were well represented across the curricula. Concepts and skills related to civil liberties, freedom of affiliation, lifelong learning and critical inquiry require more attention in teacher professional development programs.
