Abstract

This study seeks to explore the temporal evolution of student closeness in online discussions and examine the moderating effects of Social Presence (SP) subfactors, namely Affective Expression (AE), Open Communication (OC), and Group Cohesion (GC). The study utilizes Social Network Analysis (SNA) to analyze interconnectivity patterns of closeness centrality and network characteristics. Findings suggest a stable trend in student closeness over time, with GC playing a significant role in moderating interconnectivity development. AE and OC show no impact on closeness. The study emphasizes the importance of personalized guidance models for learners to navigate complex network interactions. Future research could focus on the dynamic nature of SP and explore various social network roles to enhance understanding in online learning environments.
