Exploring Keyboard Interactions and Power Dynamics in Collaborative Groups Using AI for Tracking Human Activity (Poster 16)

Thu, April 24, 3:35 to 5:05pm MDT (3:35 to 5:05pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

Using artificial intelligence, this study explores collaborative group dynamics among students in XXXX(redacted-for-review) program focusing on one shared tool in the learning setting: the keyboard. The aim is to understand how this tool serves as a data point for analyzing power dynamics within groups and the learning process. We draw on the framework for modeling influence dynamics and Cultural Historical Activity Theory to discuss how the keyboard mediates human activities and connects to cultural, social, and individual aspects of learning. We found keyboard interactions reflect and influence collaborative learning, indicating positions of influence, authority, and access. The research reveals how power relations are constructed, maintained, and challenged in collaborative learning, offering insights to inform more equitable collaborative educational practices.
