Moving Within Professional Learning Communities as a Pathway of Performing Preschool Teachers’ Holistic Occupational Well-Being (Poster 23)

Sat, April 26, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the occupational well-being (OWB) of preschool teachers within professional learning communities (PLCs) in mainland China, using a mixed-methods approach. This includes surveys from 772 participants, followed by 9 in-depth one-to-one interviews and 4 focus group discussions. The results indicated a significant positive correlation between PLCs and OWB, identifying seven key factors that influence teachers’ OWB within PLCs: collegial support, unity of purpose, collaborative leadership, relationships, holistic professional development, teachers as agents, and support services. These seven themes were integrated into three distinct PLC ideal-types, underscoring the transformative potential of a synergy among these PLC typologies in reframing teachers’ holistic occupational well-being and fostering a more enduring pursuit of professional knowledge among educators.
