Abstract

There is an increasing demand for AI literacy among university students. This study investigates how PBL supported by Generative AI (GenAI) can further enhance university students' AI literacy. Sixty-eight university students were divided into two groups, traditional PBL and GenAI-supported PBL (AIPBL). Both groups were assessed on AI knowledge, AI ethics, AI social good, AI application, self-efficacy, and intrinsic and external motivation. The results indicate that AIPBL significantly improves students' AI literacy compared to traditional PBL. Students in the AIPBL group showed more significant advancements in AI knowledge, AI social good, self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation. This research contributes to both the theoretical framework and practical strategies for PBL and AI education, offering insights for future studies and highlighting certain limitations.
