Black Women Negotiating Work-Life Stress, Well-Being, Career and Life Decisions, and Social Justice Leadership

Wed, April 23, 2:30 to 4:00pm MDT (2:30 to 4:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

The scarcity of Black women educational leaders (WOCELs) and their attrition from k12 leadership is a problem that will continue to worsen as the number of minoritized educators declines and the diversification of the U.S. student population increases. Scholars have examined teacher stress and turnover but have ignored mainly Black women’s experiences of work-life stress, career and life decisions, and leadership for social justice. This research focuses on how Black women negotiate work-life stress, well-being, and career and life decisions to understand how they navigated life and career decisions, enacted leadership for social justice, and supported their well-being.
