Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) literacy has drawn growing attention in K-12 education; however pedagogical design remains challenging in upper elementary schools. To address this challenge, this study proposes, develops, and evaluates an integrated approach that incorporates AI literacy into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. The integrated STEM education approach was enacted via an AI curriculum with 34 students, and exploratory case studies were conducted to examine its impact on students’ AI literacy. Findings reveal that students gained a fundamental understanding of machine learning (ML) concepts, problem-solving skills in programming, critical thinking, and ethical awareness. This study shows the value of interdisciplinary approaches in AI education while highlighting its potential in preparing the young generation for a technology-driven future.
