Abstract

Canvas Learning management system (LMS) is widely used in higher education to provide instructors with the tools to deploy instructional materials and students with the tools to access and interact with those materials and their peers. Blended learning is becoming increasingly popular due to its flexibility. This study extracts log data from a blended course to analyze how interaction predicts academic performance. We also examined differences in procrastination between high and low performing students and the effect of assignment type on procrastination. Results suggest that frequent interaction with course material improves academic performance, highlighting the importance of monitoring LMS data to support at-risk students. Effective time management and structured, time-limited assignments were associated with higher academic success and less procrastination.
