Atravesadas in Higher Education: (Re)framing the Chicana/Latina Transition to College Through Travesía

Abstract

This presentation draws from an Anzaldúan Borderlands (1987) theorization to consider how travesía can support a Chicana/Latina feminist re-framing of college transition that centers a fluid, dynamic, and intersectional understanding of the Chicana/Latina undergraduate transition and experience. Drawing from the college transition testimonios of Chicana/Latina undergraduates from immigrant backgrounds, this presentation makes visible the dynamic, non-linear college transition as Chicana/Latina undergraduates enter and navigate the university as perpetual atravesadas.
