Early Childhood Expulsion and Suspension: A Critical Review to Inform Just Education Research

Sat, April 26, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This comprehensive literature review examines the paradigms, conceptualizations, methodologies, and implications of current research on early childhood expulsion and suspension. Forty-five empirical studies published since 2005 were analyzed. The findings reveal a lack of theoretical grounding and a reliance on the functionalism paradigm and quantitative research methods. Based on these findings, we provide recommendations for future research in this field.
