In Search for Remedy: A Critical Duoethnography From the Capitalist-Colonial-Neoliberal Higher Educational Institutions

Fri, April 25, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

In this duoethnography, we narrated our experiences as F-1 doctoral students from the Global South using the de-post/colonial framework. We delved into our multiple identities hierarchized within the capitalist-colonial higher educational institutions in the Global North. We found our experiences tied to our nationalities, bodies, and class constricted our agencies as scholars and at times as human beings. We argue that the locus of the problem is rooted in the system and not within us, challenging the deficit narrative about the Global South, the location and the people. Dwelling on remedy, we encourage fellow F-1 doctoral students from the Global South to use de-post/colonial framework in ventilating their experiences, setting themselves as the researchers instead of the researched.
