FAFSA Filing Rates: Examining the Negative Impacts of the Problematic "FAFSA Simplification" Rollout

Abstract

This study explores completion trends and on-time filing rates among FAFSA filers at a public university in light of the FAFSA Simplification Act, which introduced significant changes and unique challenges for 2024-25 college applicants. Results indicate declines in both overall and on-time filing rates compared to prior years, which has implications for students’ aid eligibility and ability to make informed postsecondary decisions.
