Sun, April 27, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

While the effect of general distance learning has been examined in several studies, the impact of hybrid distance learning during quarantine is less investigated. This study contrasts the perceptions of N=721 German and Swiss students regarding general and hybrid distance learning and examines influencing factors. Quantitative content analysis and chi-square tests were used to contrast students’ perceptions. The results indicate that students appreciated being at home and increased flexibility but missed social contacts and learning support. Minor differences were found between perceptions of general and hybrid distance learning. Using random forest models, results indicate that gender and grade level are important predictors. These findings can help to improve regular and hybrid teaching and meet students’ needs in similar future situations.
