Abstract

Interactive media and digital learning in U.S. History education has been underexplored, particularly in the era of individual student devices. In this study, we examine educators’ perceptions of an online collection of historical resources that included interactive media. Teachers (N = 24) were recruited to use the resources and implement in their classrooms. Teachers perceived that interactive media made an impact on student learning in the classroom, fostering increased student engagement and skills, and created opportunities for deeper learning due to the inclusion of multiple perspectives. We also found that educators were interested in continuing to implement interactive media in their classes. Ultimately, our findings suggest potential design principles for developing interactive media for teaching historical knowledge and thinking skills.
