Abstract

Higher education abroad has become common for international students in recent years. The United States has become the top destination choice for them. Many of these international students hail from different Asian countries (Institution of Education,2003 et al.,2010) to achieve quality education in the US. Unfortunately, even though much research has been conducted to explore East Asian students’ experiences in the US, their South Asian cohorts go unseen and unheard. Hence, using a phenomenological study of six participants, this paper examines South Asian doctoral students’ (SADS) experience during their transition to higher education at a US Midwestern university. The findings indicate that although SADS share certain commonalities with their East Asian cohorts, their experiences are uneven and unique.
