Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

This study aimed to articulate girls' experiences in physical education in a poetic form using a feminist poststructuralist lens. Two poetic forms were mixed to articulate girls’ experiences in physical education drawing from the interview data from 28 selected articles. Thematic analysis was used to create poems. The four poems were created: (a) Having taken refuge; (b) Beautiful You; (c) They Say, I Say in PE; and (d) If I Had a Choice, based on four themes: (a) negative experience; (b) perception of the body image; (c) physical and body culture; and (d) negotiating the curriculum for transformation. This study showed how poetic inquiry went beyond traditional forms of qualitative data analysis and representation in the physical education field.
