Abstract

The AERA 2025 call challenges educational researchers to integrate across disciplines and methods to address education and democracy's challenges. As an international group (USA, Nepal, UK), we explore how our values influence educational research and contribute to human flourishing. This paper argues that repair and remedy in education stem from understanding our values and their impact on learning. We present two objectives: discussing our responsibilities in generating values-based explanations of our educational influences and reflecting on the distinction between educational and education research. Using principles of self-study and Living Educational Theory, we explore our values in practice, emphasizing the importance of cross-cultural inquiry for deeper understanding and improvement in educational research.
