Students' Feelings of Safety Amidst COVID-19 School Closures: A Study on PISA 2022

Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

COVID-19 school closures have globally impacted students' academic performance and socio-emotional well-being. This study analyzed PISA 2022 USA data to examine students' feelings of safety during these closures. Using multiple regression, the study explored the influence of home possessions, economic, social, and cultural status, and distress from online content and cyberbullying. Results showed that economic, social, and cultural status, and distress from online content and cyberbullying significantly affected feelings of safety, while home possessions did not. These findings highlight the need for social support and a safe online environment, especially for students lacking adequate home support systems.
