Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

A survey of 588 Chinese parents examined the moderating role of education anxiety on the relationship between family socioeconomic status (SES) and parental education involvement. Results showed parental involvement and anxiety were above average. Father's and mother's education levels and family income were negatively correlated with education anxiety and positively correlated with involvement. Mother's education positively predicted academic tutoring, parent-child communication, and overall involvement. Maternal education's effect on parent-child communication was moderated by educational anxiety, being stronger for mothers with low anxiety. Recommendations include emphasizing fathers' roles in family education, encouraging increased parental involvement, shifting focus from quantity to quality of educational participation, managing educational anxiety effectively, and enhancing collaboration among schools, families, and communities.
