Abstract

This exploratory study investigates instructional design strategies for enhancing social emotional competencies using AI courseware in K-12 education. Employing design and development research methodology, the study combined literature review and expert interviews to derive design strategies. The resulting strategies comprises three phases: Planning & Preparation, Implementation, and Sustainment. Key strategies include assessing compatibility between educational objectives and AI courseware, identifying subject-specific social-emotional learning competencies, facilitating personalized goal-setting, and integrating collaborative learning opportunities. Findings emphasize the importance of strategic AI integration, teacher guidance, and supportive learning environments to enhance students' cognitive, emotional, and social competencies. The study contributes practical guidelines for educators and instructional designers leveraging AI courseware for social-emotional development, with implications for future empirical studies.
