Abstract

Ethnic racial identity is a multidimensional construct that is understood overtime through social group memberships and individuals' affective attachment to a given social group. This study explores how Latinx parents cultivate ERI through purposeful ethnic-racial socialization informed by race positionality in society and experiences of racism. It is conceptualized that minority groups engage in a process of critical consciousness internal reflection. This is an undertaking that elicits questions and recognizes unequal distribution of resources as a result of power differences between groups. As a means of adding to the human development literature on Latinx parent ERS this secondary data analysis on qualitative interviews asks how these conversations of race and racism cultivate narratives of opportunity for youth of color.
