Abstract

An anticolonial ethical praxis pushes beyond the narrow institutional framework of research ethics commonly taught and practiced in the United States. Anticolonialism comprises an expansive variety and history of resistance movements against imperial and colonial powers (Dei, 2006). It is a vital project, considering that nearly all nations have been colonized or were colonial powers, and only four countries escaped subjugation to European colonial rule or influence (Blakemore, 2023). Within the social sciences, anticolonialism is "broadly defined as a theoretical framework, analytical tool, and grounded, place-based practice oriented toward resisting, fighting against, and dismantling the aims of colonial regimes, systems, and ideologies" (Nunn & Whetung, 2020, p. 1).
