Sat, April 26, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 702

Abstract

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) has gained increasing importance worldwide, aiming to equip students with emotional skills and foster social-emotional connections. Building upon this background, a social-emotional learning integrated integrative activities (SEL-IA) course for fifth graders is developed. This study employs a quasi-experimental design to examine its impact on SEL competencies, academic achievement, and their relationships. Key findings are as follows: (1) The experimental group students demonstrate significantly higher levels of self-management in SEL competence compared to the comparison group. (2) The experimental group students achieve significantly higher academic achievement scores than the comparison group. (3) Interpersonal relationships, a key component of SEL, positively predict academic achievement in science among female students. Some educational implications and suggestions are offered.
