Middle Managers: Stuck or Strategic, a Scoping Review

Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 404

Abstract

This paper performs a scoping review of the educational administration literature on principals as middle managers in order to answer questions about how the position is formally contextualized within organizations and what particular strengths and weaknesses the position entails. It builds a more robust understanding of principals as middle managers. This review establishes conceptual clarity for principals as middle managers and common ground for research that integrates management roles and organizational perspectives with leadership theory.
