Decoloniality Synergized With Critical Whiteness Studies

Sun, April 27, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

The third wave of Critical Whiteness Studies (CWS) responds to critiques of the first two waves’ Euro-American focus, emphasizing the need to explore transnational aspects of whiteness and white supremacy. This wave integrates decolonial theory to address the colonial roots of racial categorization and whiteness as a form of capital. By examining the entanglement of whiteness with coloniality, especially in Latin America, this wave seeks a holistic understanding of global racial dynamics. It calls for a theoretical synergy between CWS and decolonial theory to transcend narrow national frameworks and highlight the interconnectedness of race, power, and colonial histories, ultimately aiming to dismantle structures perpetuating inequality.
