Redefining Education-Migration: Remedy Through Transparency and Accessibility of Information for International Students (Poster 7)

Thu, April 24, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

The Canadian private career college (PCC) sector has historically enrolled a small percentage of international students (IS) but has experienced massive IS growth in recent years, particularly in Ontario. With such exponential growth, it is critical to understand how PCCs interact with IS. As education-migration is a main aim for many IS, it is important for PCCs to provide relevant information to prospective IS in a transparent and accessible way to enable them to make informed decisions about their future. Our study looks at the existing information flow between PCCs and IS using Principle-Agent Theory with an intention to use our findings to remedy and repair the harm that many IS face in the absence of appropriate and contextual information.
