This paper critically examines the misrepresentation of flow in game-based learning, highlighting the disconnect between flow experiences and actual learning outcomes. Drawing on established learning theories and bibliographic evidence, it challenges the notion that flow alone leads to effective learning in educational games. The results advocate for a nuanced approach that integrates flow-enhancing elements with strategic interruptions for reflection and cognitive processing, aiming to enhance the efficacy of game-based learning interventions.
