Abstract

Normative ways of conducting research, especially research that unravels the oppressive structures and master narratives of ableism and racism in our schools, can simultaneously oppress and limit intersectionally disabled/dis/Abled researchers. In response, a collaborative team of four disabled/dis/Abled researchers and educators play in this paper with new methodological, embodied, and liberated futures for research in Disability Studies in Education (DSE). We explore possibilities where research is affirming, collaborative, enlivening, artistic, and embodied, building from sources of knowledge often deemed insignificant within research on disability and in special education. We utilize a woven theoretical framework of DSE, cripistemologies, and disability critical race theory alongside methodological experimentations with master narrative methodology, arts-based research, and self-study in teacher education.
