Paradoxes of Racial Affinity Equity Leadership Coaching: Supporting White Principals Leading Toward Racial Justice

Sat, April 26, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 304

Abstract

This study investigates the paradoxes of racial affinity equity leadership coaching for White principals in addressing racism without placing the onus on people of Color. The research explores whether this coaching model can support White principals in recognizing and confronting systemic racism. Findings indicate that, while racial affinity coaching can inadvertently reinforce existing power structures, it simultaneously offers vital opportunities for White educators to engage in meaningful racial learning and support principals in navigating internal resistance. This process enables them to lead with a renewed commitment to educational justice.
