This study examines how colleges begin to institutionalize their AANAPISI programs. Through a two-site case study of a western community college and an eastern regional comprehensive university, this study explores how funded AANAPISIs begin to institutionalize their programs, particularly during their early moments of program design and establishment. Findings suggests that institutionalization is an interconnected process and centered in two primary areas within the AANAPISI: institutional components and institutional agents; with two mechanisms facilitating these processes: adapting their pre-existing components and embedding new components. These processes were manifested in different combinations across the two areas, shaping the ways in which AANAPISI programs began to move towards institutionalization. Actionable implications for policy, practice, and research are also offered to advance AANAPISIs.
