Abstract

Despite significant progress in research on wellbeing at work for school principals, the mediating role of vitality and emotional exhaustion and their impact on job attitudes has received little attention. This study aims to examine the mediating role of vitality and emotional exhaustion between perceived job demands (workload, mental load, and uncertainty) and principals' job attitudes (satisfaction and intention to quit). Conducted among 530 Canadian school principals, SEM results support a model explaining the mediating role of vitality and emotional exhaustion between job demands and job attitudes. School organizations would benefit from a deeper understanding of these dynamics, which could inform the development of more effective practices to support principals' wellbeing at work.
