Adapting and Implementing Design Thinking for Innovative Community-Based Solutions to Reduce Digital Inequalities in Schools

Thu, April 24, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

The project features a living laboratory for innovation in education to find solutions to the complex problems of digital inequalities in the school context. The research project is inspired by a critical, situated, and transformative perspective.

Taking a user-centered approach, the project documented the activities of two groups who found and implemented solutions to overcome digital inequalities in their context, using design thinking adaptation. Adaptations in the three phases of design thinking (problem, solution, change) enabled the combined research and development of innovative solutions to overcome digital inequalities. The adapted model will be presented and explained.

Tools to support social innovation in other communities interested in reducing digital inequalities in a participatory approach with people experiencing them will be shared.
