Abstract

The study utilized Yosso’s concept of Community Capitals to explore how young urban males crafted and developed capitals through engagement in Hip Hop within a community organization. The study employs a participatory action research model and developed a five-day Hip Hop intervention program based on the needs of the community. The findings suggest that the urban youths utilize Hip Hop as a way of racial identity formation and personal development. In this process, various capitals from Yosso’s concept are formed and solidified prominently by the community organization through a profound sense of unity.
