Abstract

Using a LatCrit intersectional approach, one that frames socially constructed identities as intersecting with various systems of oppression, this paper explores the lived experiences of a male Latinx faculty member working in teacher education. Using testimonio, this paper analyzes the risks and dangers of negotiating anti-Latinx racism in the suffocating space of teacher education. This analysis will highlight the ways White assumptive frames continue to impact the professional trajectories of Latinx faculty by creating hierarchies of nonbelonging. This study also examines how, amidst social justice discourses of diversity and equity, contemporary versions of White racism continue to define and undercut and constrain the experiences of Latinx faculty. While theoretical, this study also outlines implications for practice, research, and policy.
