Abstract

In this paper, the three authors engage in a plática to critically reflect on their educational experiences and identify the cultural and familial assets that fueled their resilience aiming to provide current and future educators with asset-based approaches to teaching Latinx youth. The authors utilize Chicana feminist epistemologies and a trenzas conceptual framework to critically analyze their shared and intersecting experiences. The authors hope that by sharing their plática, the instances that made them “lucky” (e.g., supportive advisors, educational opportunities) become the norm. Institutions and those who operate within them should access Latinxs cultural and familial assets, encourage collective upward mobilization, and foster a shared resilience.
