The intersection of racist misogyny and immigration policies affecting Latina women in the US has been particularly exacerbated in recent years. This essay critiques the inhumane "prevention by deterrence" strategies aimed at Mexican and Central American migrants, highlighting the historical and ongoing exploitation of these communities within a racial-colonial capitalist framework. Drawing on Marx and Freire, the article argues that migration serves as a capitalistic necessity facilitated by the dehumanization of racialized im/migrants through anti-immigrant narratives, laws, and violent border policies. The criminalization of im(migration), rooted in exclusionary practices and discriminatory laws, disproportionately impacts Latina women. We call for more humanizing immediate policies while we work to dismantle a system that normalizes violent ideologies of nationalism and borders.
