Sat, April 26, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

To better understand how to meet the literacy needs of all learners, including Culturally and/ or Linguistically Diverse students, this systematic literature review explores more than two decades (2000-2023) of empirical research focused on both evidence-based literacy practices in the science of reading and culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy. Our research question asks- How does empirical research describe the ways that culturally relevant and sustaining practices can be integrated with evidence-based literacy practices to enhance reading outcomes for all learners? There is a need to describe the ways evidence-based literacy practices in the science of reading can be implemented in culturally relevant and sustaining ways to be inclusive of all students.
