Fri, April 25, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 704

Abstract

School readiness skills have been linked to children's future academic achievement in U.S. early education programs. However, the quantitative methods used to examine school readiness skills, extending beyond oral language and literacy for Spanish-English speaking PreK-aged DLLs, have yet to be fully explored. This systematic review examines current quantitative methods used to study school readiness skills and the contextual factors for DLLs in PreK. Searches in Education Source and APA PsychInfo (April 2023) identified 109 articles, with 34 meeting the inclusion criteria. Five quantitative methods were found, with generalized linear models used most often. Novel methods like mixture modeling and single-case study designs were also identified. Practical guidance for future research is provided to advance the study of school readiness.
