Abstract

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems are widely used to enhance communication and other skills for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). High-tech devices, such as speech-generating devices (SGDs), offer greater independence and significantly contribute to the development of AAC solutions. This systematic review, which included 22 empirical articles, examines the research literature on a specific SGD - Proloquo2Go - to examine its effectiveness in promoting various skills for individuals with ASD and/or IDD. The findings confirm the benefits of using Proloquo2Go for individuals with special needs. Additionally, this review provides methodological recommendations based on the current research literature on Proloquo2Go to guide future research in increasing its generalization.
