Abstract

Patient encounters are essential for developing nurses' skills in gathering information and understanding patient vulnerabilities. Traditionally, standardized patients (SPs) are used, but this method poses various challenges. Virtual simulations present a promising alternative; however, most research in nursing education has focused on technical skills, often neglecting soft skills. This study analyzes nursing students' interactions in both virtual simulations and in-person settings, highlighting differences in behaviors, conversation styles, and perceptions. The major findings suggest that virtual simulations must enhance realism by incorporating human connections to effectively train empathetic and competent nurses. Additionally, virtual simulations provide valuable opportunities for unlimited practice in a judgment-free environment.
