Learning With Seductive and Interpretational Pictures: How Does Prior Knowledge Moderate the Effects of Visualizations? (Poster 7)

Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

This study compared the effects of seductive pictures(SPs), interpretational pictures(IPs), and seductive plus interpretational pictures (SIPs) in multimedia learning. Participants studied a text about the blood circulatory system with SPs, IPs, or SIPs, and completed retention and transfer tests, along with a learning experience survey. Results showed that while the picture type did not significantly influence learning outcomes, SIPs improved judgment accuracy. The study suggests educational practitioners include decorative elements thoughtfully to enhance learning materials.
