The Fulbright Paradox refers to Senator Fulbright's legacy as both a humanistic internationalist and a senator who consistently supported racial segregation. This study explores how Senator Fulbright's legacy is framed in contemporary literature, and how race and gender played a role in the everyday administration and experiences of the Fulbright Program and its participants in the early Cold War. The focus on the international higher education complicates dominant narratives of this paradox.
