Sun, April 27, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

Direct instruction (DI) has been used in continued professional development (CPD) training, but to improve pedagogical knowledge and motor skills, alternative instructional models like cooperative learning (CL) are now being considered in Physical Activity (PA) teacher education.
The study examined the receptivity of eight collegiate PA instructors who received CPD training aimed at improving their PA programs using the Sport Education model. The methods included interviews and observations.
The study confirms that instructors' ownership in the CPD process impacts their success. Instructors showed confidence during the project, but sustaining it for the semester was challenging. All instructors found CPD beneficial for improving communication. It also suggests that change involves risk, with instructors being uncomfortable with the certainty of new CPD approaches.
