Abstract

Professional social networks are important assets for teachers, offering them several opportunities, including supporting and learning from each other on teaching-related topics. This study explores the impact of targeted regional conferences on pre- and in-service teachers’ networks related to teaching and education. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected from more than 150 teachers through a social network analysis questionnaire several weeks before the conference, one week after the conference, and again 10-months after the conference. Results indicate positive and promising immediate impacts of the targeted conferences on teachers’ social networks, but more needs to be done to make these impacts long-lasting for teachers to expand their networks and continue their development as teachers dedicated to social justice and equity issues.
