Evaluation of National Board–Certified Teachers' Impacts on Disadvantaged Student Groups (Poster 29)

Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

One of the most influential school-based factors affecting student achievement is teacher quality while socioeconomically and racially disadvantaged students have less access to high quality teachers. Research has shown that National Board-Certified Teachers (NBCTs) make significantly measurable impacts on student learning, engagement, and achievement. This study investigates NBCTs’ impacts on academic growth of socioeconomically and racially disadvantaged student groups. The differences of median student growth percentiles (SGP) in state math and reading assessments between disadvantaged students of NBCTs and non-NBCTs are compared and the NBCT impacts on disadvantaged students and their counterparts are also analyzed by aggregating individual SGP to the teacher level.
