Abstract

Early postsecondary opportunities (EPSOs) are courses and programs that provide high school students with the chance to earn postsecondary credit. Participation and success in these programs—which include early college programs, Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, and International Baccalaureate courses—have a positive relationship with a range of postsecondary outcomes, including college enrollment, degree completion, and earnings. Given historic disparities in EPSO access, participation, and success among marginalized student groups, policymakers and practitioners seek to increase equity in EPSOs through program and policy change. To aid in identifying “what works,” this systematic literature review provides a comprehensive overview of interventions aimed at reducing disparities in EPSO access, participation, and success. We provide a summary of promising interventions and highlight areas needing further study.
