Implementing GenAI Tutoring With Teachers Across STEM Subjects and Countries

Sat, April 26, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 108

Abstract

The discussion will begin with a detailed look at how content is authored for OATutor, with and without GenAI. We will explore the collaborative efforts involved, highlighting the contributions of the OATutor team, as well as how partnerships with teachers have contributed in creating high-quality educational materials. Furthermore, we will examine how integrating different applications of GenAI has transformed these processes.
We will highlight case studies of working with a teacher at Mission Community College, integrating OATutor into Algebra classes, and teachers at UC Berkeley and KTH in Sweden, integrating the system into Calculus and Chemistry classes. We will highlight how our process of bespoke preparation of the system and its content has changed since the advent of GenAI and our plans for integrating subject matter experts into a revised content production process.
By examining specific deployment examples in this presentation, we will illustrate how different implementations of OATutor have tailored the system to meet the unique needs of diverse educational settings. Finally, we will discuss our future implementation plans as part of receiving a recent Tools Competition award and the ethical considerations to be grappled with as the project unfolds.
