Framing the Discussion: An Integrative Review on Principal Preparation for Equity-oriented Aims

Sat, April 26, 5:10 to 6:40pm MDT (5:10 to 6:40pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 705

Abstract

This presentation briefly presents an integrative review of literature on principal preparation for equity-oriented aims (Author & Author, under review). Their review categorizes existing scholarly work into four types: 1) evaluative accountings of equity-oriented preparation programs or elements, 2) descriptive accountings of programs engaged in equity-oriented improvement work, 3) systematic reviews of literature, and 4) theoretical accountings. The analysis highlights four key program elements that collectively shape the academic portion of preparation programs: program vision, curriculum, course pedagogy, and course assessments. The symposium begins by introducing these four areas and findings from their analysis, shedding light on the key issues and actions that prove to be important for equity-centered (re)design of preparation programs. Following this introduction, the symposium will provide detailed illustrations of equity-oriented improvement work with particular attention to program curriculum.
