The Administration of Urban Multicultural Institutions: Connecting Theoretical Underpinnings of Equity-based Leadership to Inclusive Practices

Sat, April 26, 5:10 to 6:40pm MDT (5:10 to 6:40pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 705

Abstract

This presentation will share insights from a course centered on administration of urban multicultural institutions which connects theoretical underpinnings of equity-based leadership to inclusive practices in schools. This course, forming part of the leadership core in the Ph.D. program, has been taught by this panelist for over ten years and is continuously updated with current readings from the field. Recently added to the superintendent certification scope and sequence, the course engages future school district leaders in scholarship that problematizes inequities in schools and explores ways to disrupt the status quo. This panelist will present key assignments and a continuum of readings used in the course, offering session participants insights into redesigning their own courses with an equity-centered focus.
