Continuous Improvement: Using Improvement Science Methodology and Liberatory Design Practices

Sat, April 26, 5:10 to 6:40pm MDT (5:10 to 6:40pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 705

Abstract

This presentation discusses a course focusing on continuous improvement using an improvement science methodology and liberatory design practices. Central to the doctoral program's learning objectives are the goals of being self-aware, critically conscious scholars, researchers committed to social justice, and transformative leaders. This course prepares students to enact continuous improvement through a Design Improvement for Equity (DI4E) model, addressing equity-oriented problems of practice with asset-based, equity-focused, context-specific, and measurement-driven approaches. Additionally, this panelist will share stories of students implementing this model to address issues such as access to special educators, supporting lingual Latine/x learners, and reducing biased discipline in after-school programs, highlighting lessons learned and challenges addressed in implementing this methodology in schools and districts.
